Onshore ![]() Message from the CEO
2017 Rotary Regatta The club was packed last Friday with the staging of the annual Rotary Regatta in what has been a 21 year old relationship between the CYCA and Rotary. David Kellett, Chairman of SOLAS said of the event, “ We were delighted with our first formal joint venture with Rotary in the staging of the 2017 Rotary Regatta. We particularly appreciate the boat owner's and crew's support of the event, and their help in raising funds for the Children's Hospital and SOLAS on a rather bleak day. Long may this ‘new’ relationship continue to grow and be even bigger, and hopefully brighter, next year.’ Long time and dedicated event organiser Bill Little (pictured above with CYCA Commodore John Markos) was highly complimentary of the CYCA Sailing Office, Marina Gibson and Blond Catering specifically, as well as the Board and staff generally for their support of this annual event. It is less than three weeks now before 2016 Tattersall Cup Winner, Jim Delegat, and luncheon MC, Gordon Bray, take to the stage at this year’s RSHYR 2017 Corporate Luncheon to inform and entertain guests including former Tattersall Cup winners. The menu will include fresh produce from Tasmania courtesy of Huon Salmon and National Pies with Mumm Champagne, Stella Artois and Oatley Wines providing their excellent produce for the pre-luncheon drinks and meal. Raffle prizes (supporting CYCA SOLAS Trusts) and business card draw prizes include some amazing donations from JANUS et Cie, Spirit Platform (Wee Laddie Tasting Collection), Oatley Wines - Mudgee Weekend away which includes a car for a weekend + overnight accommodation at Perry Street Hotel Mudgee + wine tasting at Robert Oatley Vineyards Cellar Door - and a jeroboam of Mumm Champagne. RYCT dinner raffle raises $,2500 for SOLAS On 10 November at Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania a dinner was held to celebrate the 70th running of the 175 mile Maria Island Race. The 70 guests in attendance included many of the leading Tasmanian yachtsmen and our own Chairman of SOLAS and notable sailor himself, David Kellett, and CYCA Board Member Leander Klohs. David had an opportunity to outline the history, objectives and goals of SOLAS and spoke of his own many voyages to Hobart and passing Maria Island. A raffle of an all-expenses paid trip to Sydney to watch the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, donated by the CYCA, raised $2,500 for SOLAS. A new menu will commence in the Bistro from tomorrow. Some of the changes to note are the addition of the following:

The Admiral's Cup display currently in the CYCA THE ADMIRAL’S CUP 50th ANNIVERSARY REGATTA - COMING SOON! CYCA members might be excused for thinking they’ve been transported back in time over the coming two weeks. The club will be co-hosting a unique, three-race regatta to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Australia’s first victory in the Admiral’s Cup in 1967. To celebrate the occasion and starting today a display of Admiral’s Cup memorabilia will be on show both upstairs and downstairs at the club marking the CYCA victorious challenge. The regatta will comprise two Harbour races (on Friday 1 December and Sunday 3) and one short offshore out-and-back race to a laid mark (on Saturday 2 December). The event is open to any yacht that either represented Australia in an Admiral’s Cup team, or contested the trials. Entrants are coming from as far away as Melbourne and Brisbane, with some crew flying in from overseas to be part of the celebration and over 20 yachts will be competing. Among the historic yachts that will be seen around the club that weekend are Camille, Fare Thee Well, Kingurra, Mercedes III, Mister Christian, Vittoria, Impetuous, Too Impetuous, Salacia 11 the first Wild Oats and the original Ragamuffin. They will be joined by many CYCA regulars including Caprice of Huon, Love and War, Pacha, Syonara and Mercedes IV. Lorita Maria has also been invited take part in recognition of the great contribution Norman Rydge made to Australia’s efforts in the Admiral’s Cup, and in the absence of Freya from our 1965 team Anitra V will represent the Halvorsen brothers. Prompted by an initial suggestion from the Classic Yacht Association of Australia, the 50th Anniversary Regatta is a joint initiative of the CYCA, the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club and the RSYS. There are two members of each club on the steering committee and the result has been a model of genuine inter-club co-operation. “There’s something special about the Admiral’s Cup that seems to bring Australian yachting folk together”, says the committee chairman, David Champtaloup. “ I can’t remember an event where all the clubs have worked alongside each other so well. We’re sharing the overall organisation, the on-water race management and the social functions. We even have agreement on a common set of Sailing Instructions.” On the Saturday evening after racing the CYCA will be hosting a BBQ on the deck and two of our victorious team yachts from 1967, Caprice of Huon and Mercedes 111 will be on show in the basin. The sons of all three winning skippers from 1967 will be competing..Ant Crichton –Brown will be on the original Ragamuffin..Rob and Tony Reynolds aboard Caprice of Huon and Scott Kaufman aboard Mercedes III ..the yacht his father designed.
